Living on Purpose
Thuli Madonsela (Public Protector South Africa 2009 – 2016 and now Professor of Law Stellenbosch University) said, “As an African woman, I’ve learned the importance of self-definition and living purposefully. It’s vital that every girl determines, as early as possible, who she is and what her contribution to humanity will be.”
Two of several women from Siphila Sonke who live purposefully are Unathi and Lien; Unathi oversees the distribution of monthly food parcels for our beneficiaries, whilst Lien oversees daily teaching at Kids club. Like many around them they also juggle married life, raising children and purposefully making a difference within the community. Added to that (substantial) list they have efficiently served our many visitors at Elgin Open Gardens for the last two weekends and like us, we know that you will be grateful for the strength of these women of grit and determination.
In fact, they are so committed to Siphila Sonke that they recently tracked down thieves who had broken into the centre through the roof during the night and taken 16 laptop computers which the children use for “School in a Box”. Our ladies quick-thinking, speedy action and bravery meant that 11 computers were returned to Siphila!
This morning after 14 straight days of work our pair were still smiling and giving of their best. Thank you to the entire team who made Elgin Open Gardens a great success raising funds which enable Siphila to impact more lives #welivetogether #making a difference
